Avdat National Park

Extensive ruins of an ancient Nabatean hilltop city in the Negev desert. It was more impressive than I recalled/expected. The video in the visitor's center is not as good as the interactive ones at some of the newer parks, I think it's skippable.
Highly recommend parking at the smaller parking lot near the ancient storage caves, rather than parking at the main entrance at the upper city. We had the lower part all to ourselves and the caves there still containing ancient pottery storage vessels was really cool, especially for the kids who loved exploring them. Then head up the steps to the ancient Nabatean temple and Byzantine church, residential complexes, and Roman tower at the upper city.
There's a McDonald's at the bottom of the hill which is convenient for after the visit. If you can, it's great to combine Avdat with nearby Ein Avdat in the same day - each one only needs 2-3 hours to visit and makes a great day trip.
